Dawn Miller
The artist Dawn Miller was born in St. Louis. As a child, Dawn would scramble outdoors to play in the dirt and climb trees. After many skinned knees, her father built her a tree house. In addition to creating art, Dawn would spend her summers camping, hiking, and fishing. These experiences set the foundation for her love of landscapes.
Miller pursued art all through high school, even taking an independent study art class her senior year where she designed her own curriculum. Her first job was at a banner company hand drawing patterns, logos, and fonts. That challenging work paid off as she was awarded scholarships and grants for her first art degree.
During college, she worked as a picture framer, which provided a wealth of knowledge for caring for her own work later. At 21, she graduated early with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in painting and a Spanish minor. After graduation she had the opportunity to explore Spain and Gibraltar. There Dawn fell in love with the vibrant landscapes, rich culture, and dynamic artists.
Dawn favored acrylics until another artist encouraged her to try oil paints. She taught herself how to use them and has been hooked on oils ever since. Building on this knowledge, she continued her education earning a MA and MFA.
She strives for a dichotomy in her work, creating a flurry of brushstrokes up close, which merge into representational work from a distance. It’s a balance of abstract and realism. Miller believes that a painting should look like a painting and loves to play with color.
Her customers gush about how there’s a peaceful happiness to her work. Dawn’s vibrant paintings reflect a lifetime of experiences, sacrifices, and passion. “I love what I do and I’m grateful that get to continue my journey as an artist.”
Her works hang in galleries and private collections throughout the United States and internationally. She currently lives near St. Louis, Missouri with her son.
